Companies' reactions and outcomes
Companies have tried many ways to counter fansubbing, some more effective than others. Some have tried cease and desist letters which do not solve the problem and only stigmatize the companies. Many fansub groups will abide by such requests, but not all of them. And, there always seem to be new fansub groups starting up whenever an older one stops.
Recent Events
There have been many events happening recently (up to early 2009) that have shown the effects of what many believe to be fansubs.
- 5/4/2009 - Industry Group Head Says Anime is a Bubble that Burst This is forboding for everyone involved in the anime industry since now the Japanese companies are feeling the pinch both from abroad and from within Japan.
- 9/20/2009 - Toonami Ends Toonami used to show many anime series during its slot on Cartoon Network, but the ratings have declined too much. This could be from anime watchers going online to watch their anime instead of through American television.
- 9/26/2007 - Geneon Closes Geneon used to license and release anime to US audiences.
- 8/1/2007 - Anime sales dropped %7 in 2007 Anime sales have been going down ever since then.
